Interactive Metronome is a computer-based therapy that improves motor planning, timing and sequencing, all of which are considered fundamental capacities for learning and performance. IM uses headphones, hand and foot sensors to determine how closely a participant responds to computer-generated musical beats. An IM training program may be beneficial to children who score outside of the normal range. During training, this innovative, patented, auditory therapy progressively challenges participants to improve their motor planning, timing and sequencing. Like training wheels on a bicycle, the guide sounds instantaneously provide feedback on the accuracy of each movement and encourage improvement.
In scientific studies, Interactive Metronome training has been found to improve brain functioning in children and adults in both academic and sports endeavors. In addition, IM performance correlates with academic achievement in areas such as mathematics, language, reading, and attention to task.
